The Multiplicity Paradigm

As I become increasingly aware of the many-layered complexity of reality, I often experience prolonged internal debate on how to proceed as I navigate through life. Another way of viewing this inner debate, which many refer to as “thinking,” is the conversation of multiple sub-minds within.

Richard C. Schwartz, Ph.D., developed Internal Family Systems, in response to clients’ descriptions of various parts within themselves.  Operating on a multiple sub-mind paradigm, the system suggests we possess several selves within which come forward as required, all intent on protecting us.

This work offers the sphere or orb as representation of our consciousness or being. Illumination suggests how various parts of ourselves come forward as needed while others lie in wait, while new parts are in the process of formation.
